Evangelical Church at Hinton
Sunday, July 6, the first services of the Evangelical church of
North America were conducted in the Hinton Community Hall. Services
included Sunday school at 9 a.m., worship service at 9:45 a.m.,
and evening service at 7:30 p.m.
The pastor, Rev. Derry Long and his wife, Marlyce,
arrived in Hinton June 30, and resided in the parsonage located
at Main and Prospect streets, the former Lamar Jones home.
The Evangelical church of North America was just
over 7 years old at the time. It was organized in Portland, Oregon,
on June 4,1968 by ministers and laymen who chose not to be a part
of the popular ecumenical movement.
